The Ross Community Center has after school programs for school age kids. On Fridays, they have a Freaky Friday presentation and I was there with Boston, my pit bull, and SonnyRoo, my 2-legged Chihuahua, talking about Humane Education.
Humane Education Topics Include:
-Humane education
-Pit bulls
-Bullying
-Prejudice
-Being different
-Disabilities
-How to avoid dog bites
-How to be a responsible pet caretaker and
-Dog training tips
I show the kids very simple tricks they can teach their dog and give them simple directions to do so. We have a question and answer session about pets and give the kids time to actually work one-on-one with SonnyRoo and Boston. 99% of the kids are in shock because SonnyRoo only has 2 legs AND that Boston is a pit bull. Unfortunately, the stereotype is alive and well here in Muncie, Indiana but I’m here to help dispel that myth!
So without further ado…here’s some pictures of SonnyRoo, Boston and some of the kids in the program.
Getting ready to start the presentation but, first, let me take a selfie!
Boston was looking at his friend wearing plaid. Sonny was hopping around like a Mexican jumping bean.
After the presentation we got a group picture with the kids that were left.
These three kids were fun, attentive and had lots of questions about pit bulls and handicapped dogs.
See the stylish boy in plaid?! He’s adorable. Miss Maddie was striking a pose in the middle and the sweet girl working with Boston was giving him a final treat before she left.
SonnyRoo did awesome during the presentation as did Boss. I’m proud of my little guys and look forward to what the future holds for us.

If you have a group of children that could benefit from having some visitors, I’d love to talk to you. Past groups we’ve visited include: Girl Scout and Brownie troops and VBS groups. These presentations are free, fun and very educational.
Why Humane Education Is Important
It’s very important for children to learn to be gentle to animals and without having the chance to interact with them many kids miss their chance. Showing them that dogs like SonnyRoo, who’s handicapped, can live happy and healthy lives. These unique presentations open up the world for some kids and can help them cope with things in their lives, especially if they’re victims of bullying and prejudice. Keep us in mind for your next children’s presentation!
