Funny title, huh? The Muncie Apartment Community Pet Poo Report is a review of sorts. A review of the state of affairs in regard to poo and the cleanliness of the communities we work in. All the complexes we talk about here are great places to live. We encourage you to check these places out if you’re in the market for housing. These places all have great amenities like exercise rooms, pool, some have tanning beds, club house, wifi and maintenance staff attentive to tenant needs.
Muncie Apartment Community Pet Poo Report
First things first: Why in the world would we want to talk about this?
We’re not here to bash any property managers or apartment complexes, we’re here to bring awareness to the topic of pet waste AT apartment communities and how important it is to remind tenants to clean up after their pets. No one wants to step in dog poop but a dogs gotta do what a dogs gotta do!
What We See In Our Apartment Communities
Our dog walkers and pet sitters spend their days and nights walking Fido and Fifi in various apartment complexes in Muncie. Some apartment complexes are pet-friendly and do a great job enforcing pet waste removal, and some even go so far as to issue fines AND give eviction notices for accumulated waste.
At sit-stay-play, we really don’t think it’s the job of the apartment complex to go around and pick up after YOUR dog but if you don’t and they don’t, then the property goes to poop (literally).
Often, stray dogs will meander onto these properties unfortunately and with their visits, comes their gifts. One good thing dog parents can do to keep stray dogs at bay is to keep their pets spayed or neutered. When spring rolls around stray dogs will come out of the wood work and travel miles when they smell a female in heat. Keeping your male dog neutered will curb his desire to run and look for the goody goods.
So…back to this little Pet Poo Report. We list the apartment complexes we provide services in AND how we rate them on a scale of 1 to 10, 1 having more poo to step in and 10 having the least amount of poo.
Forest Oaks
Pet Waste Stations: 5 out of 10. Why 5 out of 10? Number one reason is because they have stations but most of the time there aren’t bags in them.
Nov. 15: No improvement. No bags in the stations I walked by.
January 12: What, still no bags?
March 31: Still no bags in ANY of the pet waste stations.
Poo on ground: 9 out of 10. Good job! Residents in Forest Oaks must clean up after their pets or the maintenance crew have picked up a new job.
Nov. 15: Still very little poo on the ground. Kudos!
Woods Edge
Woods Edge has 2 locations, we’re calling them east and west.
(Both locations) Pet Waste Stations: 0/10. Boo…no stations can be found! Warning: Take your own poop bags if you’re walking your dog here because you can’t grab one while you’re out walking.
Nov. 15: 0/10, no stations!
(West) Poo on ground: 8/10. Good job people! Not much waste on the ground here, maybe there’s not a high-number of pooches at this property?!?
Nov. 15: 9/10…hardly any pet waste in the grass areas. Good job!
Jan. 25: 9/10. Still very little waste in the areas we walked in–YAY!!
(East) Poo on ground: 4/10. LOTS of poop by northeast parking lot near edge of lot. This must be the place of choice because people stand in the lot and let their dogs go right off the edge. Come on people! It’s really not that hard to bend over and scoop the poop.
Nov. 15: 7/10, less poop in the areas mentioned above. Some people are being good canine pooper scoopers!
March 30: 4/10. Still lots of poop on ground in two particular areas.
(side note: I spoke with someone in the office and the poo problem has been addressed with the residents. Great job Woods Edge!)
University Estates
Pet Waste Stations: 10/10. Love to walk dogs here! Locations are spaced apart very good and there’s always nice green, disposable bags (or so the fine print says).
Nov. 15: 10/10 Still excellent in this category
Poo on ground: 9/10. The only places we see a predominance of dog poop is near the stations. Really? You’re that close to a doggy pot and you can’t throw away the poop. Good job nonetheless. Extra Bonus: I see a University Estates employee out almost everyday I’m walking and guess what he’s doing? Yep. Scooping poop. Or trash. I haven’t gotten that close to actually see what he’s picking up but he does have a bucket to empty the doggy waste stations.
Nov. 15: 9/10 Minimal poop on ground.
March 30: The grassy area between University Estates and Windemere is a mine field! Now I know the 3 foot snow drifts prevented people from scooping but spring is now here and that poop needs to be cleaned up quick. It’s super unhealthy for dogs (and people) to traipse through dog poop. And you know what? Your dog probably isn’t stepping over each pile so when you take your pup back into your apartment in UE or Windemere, you’re bringing the waste from another dog in. Yuck!
The Haven (Formerly Windermere)
Pet Waste Stations: 7/10. Love to walk dogs here too and normally there’s bag in the stations but you better take some – just in case.
Nov. 15: 8/10. They’re doing a better job keeping stations full of bags.
March 30: 5/10. Lots of stations empty. Which could be a good thing if people are using them for their intended purpose.
Poo on ground: 5/10. This property gets a 5 out of 10 because there’s usually tons of poop in one particular area. In other parts of the complex I see people scooping when they walk their dogs but this one spot is NASTY.
Nov. 15: Still lots of dog poop near the sidewalks, yikes.
Mach 30: Dang…there’s one building in particular that has a tremendous amount of waste on all four sides of the building. Super disgusting. I think it’s time for Windermere to issue letters to all the tenants in that building addressing this issue, for sure.
Did Your Apartment Community Make The Report
Is your apartment complex on this list? Are you proud or ashamed? We’ll be updating this as the time goes on and adding new apartment complexes as we have dog walking jobs there.
Thanks for reading our Muncie Apartment Community Pet Poo Report. We’re poking fun at this topic (just a little) but pet waste is a serious topic we shouldn’t just brush aside. Dog poop can transmit diseases that humans can get and children and people with low immune systems are especially vulnerable.
Pet waste pollutes ground water and can transmit worms and viruses to your dog as well.
Please pick up your dog’s poop when you’re out walking. If you aren’t able to bend over due to health reasons, call us, we can come out and scoop the property or the little yard you let your dog use the bathroom in.
Happy Scooping,
